  Dimensions of Health and Wellness:                                  As indicated in a previous post titled "Are you truly Healthy?" there are several dimensions of health and wellness which a re intricately connected, and all have a direct effect on our health. As expressed previously, all dimensions need to be developed to achieve optimal health, wellness and wholeness.  As a recap, dimensions of health and wellness include:  Physical - incorporating the development of a healthy lifestyle including good nutrition, physical activity, developing habits of adequate rest and sleep, participating in routine health screenings and avoiding the use of alcohol, tobacco and other harmful substances. Spiritual -  involves deriving meaning and purpose in life which relate to our beliefs and value system.  It involves "getting outside of ", "transcending" the 'physical' self....

  Dimensions of Health & Wellness:                         When most people report on their health and wellness, they focus on the physical signs, symptoms and manifestations.  Somehow, our system of healthcare has been aligned with treating physical symptoms and manifestations.  For a very long time, particularly for sub-groups of the population, dimensions of wellness such as the mental have been ignored, not emphasized and even stigmatized. The Whole You: For many, this focus on the physical to the exclusion of the other dimensions of health and wellness has culminated in the continued weakening of other dimensions of health and wellness and the exacerbation of physical ailments.
